This Federal Bureau of Investigation Seattle field office file (100-18945) gathers flying saucer material from 1952 to 1960. It holds newspaper clippings, citizen complaint forms and agent memoranda about sightings over Pasco, Kennewick, Seattle, Richland and the Hanford reservation, Spokane and other Washington locations. The file records 1952 agreements with military intelligence on passing reports to OSI and the Air Force. One Hanford sighting from 1953 was attributed to a meteorological balloon. The FBI itself carried out no investigations.

# Office Memorandum UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO : SAC, SEATTLE (65-new) DATE: 2-13-53 FROM : SA W. MARK FELT SUBJECT: SIGHTING OF UNUSUAL OBJECTS At 10:30 A.M., 2/10/53 Miss DELMA J. SEGRAM, Seattle Civil Defense, telephonically contacted the office to advise that a Mrs. WISKERKEN (first name not obtained), 7355 - 33rd N. E., informed by telephone at 10:10 A.M. the same date that she, Mrs. WISKERKEN, had observed a very large object "quite high" directly above and somewhat West of Sand Point Naval Air Station. Mrs. WISKERKEN described the object as very like a large parachute and stated that it was "so silver" that she could hardly look at it. After approximately two minutes the object appeared to fade away to the North. The above information was furnished to Colonel SPENCER RAYNOR, OSI; to SA SULLIVAN of IFO #3, and to Lt. Commander ROBERT KING, DIO, 13th ND, at 10:45 and 10:50 A.M. respectively. On 2/12/53 Mr. BRANDES, IFO #3 furnished SA DUCOMMUN the following information: BRANDES stated that other Intelligence agencies had been notified. According to BRANDES, Mrs. KATHLEEN CARTER, 4499 Union Bridge Lane, Seattle, an employee of the Signal Division, Seattle Port of Embarkation, informed IF0 #3 at 1627 hours on 2/10 last that at approximately 1508 hours on 2/9/53 while passing over the University Bridge in a bus she observed a bright object in the sky high over Sand Point Naval Air Station, but a little to the south. She said the sky was fairly clear at the time and it was the extreme brightness of the object which called her attention to it.
