Correspondence Relating to Project Blue Book, 1955

U.S. Department of War · 1955 · 220 pages · text by GLM-OCR

This 1954 to 1955 file of U.S. Air Force Directorate of Intelligence correspondence gathers letters and memos about the Unidentified Flying Object Program. In one memo, the Air Force says an object that fell at Sylacauga, Alabama was identified as a meteorite at the Air Technical Intelligence Center. Donald Keyhoe questions the Office of Naval Research about the Navy's analysis of the Tremonton film, and the Navy says data are insufficient and it sees no danger. Most of the replies to the public enclose the Air Force UFO summary.

Dear Sirs:

I was profoundly shaken upon reading Major Keyhoe's, "Flying Saucers from Outer Space." A revelation to me,it amounted to an unofficial Air Force admission of the existence of these interplanetary objects. A February 6, Associated Press dispatch reported that a mysterious explosion of terrific force shook the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.Synonymously a cigar-shaped object emitting a dazzling light was sighted, travelling at a high speed as it disappeared into the horizon.

The world must be prepared both psychologically and materially in the event of any sudden maneuver by these hypothetical aliens. If we are under surveillance by flying saucers I hope that we are mature enough to reconcile ourselves to that reality. However it would be infinitely worse if we followed a policy of see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. It would be suicidal to lull ourselves into a childish sense of security.

It is imperative that you express your candid and firm belief as to the nature of these, "Unidentified Flying Objects" to the public. MUCH hinges on your prompt action.

Truly yours,

George Tumarkin : Student

P.S. Kindly answer my letter. Thank you.
