This 1954 to 1955 file of U.S. Air Force Directorate of Intelligence correspondence gathers letters and memos about the Unidentified Flying Object Program. In one memo, the Air Force says an object that fell at Sylacauga, Alabama was identified as a meteorite at the Air Technical Intelligence Center. Donald Keyhoe questions the Office of Naval Research about the Navy's analysis of the Tremonton film, and the Navy says data are insufficient and it sees no danger. Most of the replies to the public enclose the Air Force UFO summary.

# 7 Millside Lane Mill Valley, Calif. # July 10, 1955 Public Information Officer Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Dayton, Ohio Dear Sir: I am studying the possibility of doing a magazine piece on the subject of Unidentified Flying Objects and the Air Force effort to check out all reports turned in on sightings or alleged sightings. I am especially interested in whatever units have been assigned the special task of making such investigations and the procedures involved. Can you send me some preliminary information on this subject and tell me what part of the operation, if any, will be classified and therefore unobtainable? I am more interested, of course, in the men who do the job, than in precise technical data. And I am sure the subject can be handled in such a way that the populace need not be disturbed, but rather reassured that the Air Force is so thoroughly on the job. I would appreciate it if you could send me certain unclassified documents which I believe pertain to the subject. These would be AF Regulations 200-2 and 200-7, plus an account of early UFOB operations which I believe is called Project Bluebook. If your office is not the correct one to approach for the above information, will you please forward this letter to the proper contact? However, I believe that the impetus for the operation must stem from Wright field. Should this idea turn into a story, I probably will do it in collaboration with another Mill Valley writer, Monty Waite, with whom I work occasionally on chores for Post and Colliers. Many thanks for any assistance you can give me. Sincerely yours, George S. Wells N144794
