This combined Project Sign file, drawn from USAF records, documents the 1 October 1948 encounter over Fargo, North Dakota, in which Air National Guard pilot 2nd Lt. George F. Gorman chased a small round white light in his F-51 for 27 minutes. The file holds checklists, interrogation reports by Major Paul Kubala of the ATI Field Office at Wright-Patterson, tower witness statements, Geiger readings on the aircraft and press clippings. It concludes that Gorman's statements should be accepted as truth until proven wrong.

# CONFIDENTIAL A. STAT & LIST BY DOCTOR A. J. CAMBRIDGE: October 1st at 11:20 P.M. gentleman and myself took off from Skye Panch Flying Field, which is five (5) miles South of Vector Airport, at eight-forty (8:40) P.M. to do a little night flying. We were in a two-way radio connection with the tower at Vector Airport. I was doing the flying and Wilson was using the phones and while circling the Football Field at the A.T. at 1600 feet, the Fargo tower revealed that there was a 51 in the air and a few minutes later asked the third plane might be. We had noticed the 51, and when we were over the North side of Vector Field going east, a light essentially on a plane flared above and to the north adving very swiftly toward the west. At first we thought it was the 51 but we then saw the lights of the 51 higher and more over the field. We landed on rupway three (3) and taxiled into the add building and went up to the tower and listened to the calls from the 51 which seemed to be trying to overtake the plane or lighted object which the went southward over the city. The plane was moving very swiftly, much faster than the 51. I tried to get a better view with a pair of binoculars but couldn't follow it well enough. The 51 landed and we took off just ahead of Northwest plane and landed at Skye Panch and registered on the flying sheet at 10:20 P.M. I saw the light and the 51 at the same time.
