This combined Project Sign file, drawn from USAF records, documents the 1 October 1948 encounter over Fargo, North Dakota, in which Air National Guard pilot 2nd Lt. George F. Gorman chased a small round white light in his F-51 for 27 minutes. The file holds checklists, interrogation reports by Major Paul Kubala of the ATI Field Office at Wright-Patterson, tower witness statements, Geiger readings on the aircraft and press clippings. It concludes that Gorman's statements should be accepted as truth until proven wrong.

# CONFIDENTIAL Q. That was the list of this conversation and the time it occurred? A. My first call becurred at 2107 at which time I asked the tower if any other aircraft were in the air besides the cub and myself. 9. What was the towers response? 4. They know of no other local aircraft. What did you do them? A. I contiated the tower, gave them my position, the position of the object, and notified the tower that I was neeling off and going to give chase. 2. How near did you estimate that you not to the object during the chase? 4. The closest time I got to the object are in head-on pass at which the object passed over no less than 900 feet. Q. How long did the object appear when it passed over you? 4. It appeared to be from 6 to 9 inches in diameter. Q. Can you describe the object? A. The object was white light with no apparent glare and clear cut edge. 2. Did the object have any depth? 1. Apparently no. Q. Could you describe it as merely a ball of light? 1. No, it seemed to be flat. Q. How long were you able to keep the object in view? A. Twenty-seven (27) minutes. CONFIDENTIAL EXHIBIT "E"
