This MoD file, titled UFOs - Persistent Correspondence - Dr David Clarke, holds Dr David Clarke's Freedom of Information requests and emails to the Directorate of Air Staff from 2005 to 2008. Clarke asked for the DI55 report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in the UK Air Defence Region and for Rendlesham papers. He also sought records about Nick Pope. Other items include an internal review that released redacted passages on plasmas, the MoD's statement that it had no report of the 2008 South Wales police helicopter sighting, and a 2009 disposal form.

## Section 40

>I spoke to Section 40 in 1 Nov about this. I do not believe this should be >treated as an FOI request, and I see no need to involve the current >ACAS. David Clarke has had all the papers from the MoD that relate to >the matter, and he is now seeking to get a personal perspective from >the then ACAS. David Clarke often uses this technique as part of his >research. Given that ACM Bagnall has retired, I left it with Section 40 >that all we were obliged to do was pass the letter on to Sir Anthony. >It is entirely for him if he chooses to reply. If he wants to we would >be happy to assist in preparing some background material for him. All >I want to be able to do is advise David Clarke that we have passed the >letter on.

>I hope this clarifies our approach.
