This Project Blue Book file on the Socorro, New Mexico sighting of 24 April 1964 compiles an Air Force record card and a large set of press clippings. The clippings cover policeman Lonnie Zamora's report of an egg-shaped object with four landing marks and scorched brush, plus J. Allen Hynek's investigation and follow-up reports from La Madera, Edgewood and elsewhere. An Air Force summary says soil and brush analysis found no foreign material, radiation or propellant, that the case remains open, and that later related sightings were explained or found to be hoaxes.

April 25, 1964, when on the previous day at Socorro, New Mexico a policeman, Mr. Lonnie Zamora, reported sighting an object on the ground a mile south of the town at approximately 5:45 p.m. Lonnie Zamora said the object was white, egg-shaped and supported on glrderlike legs. He heard a roar and saw smoke and flames coming from underneath the object. The UFO rose to a point about 15-20 feet above the ground and the flames and smoke ceased. He stated that the object remained stationary for several seconds and then flew off in a southerly direction following the contour of the gully. I wrote Lonnie Zamora on several occasions concerning his sighting, and never received a reply. I was also unable to reach him by telephone.

The Air Force sent investigators from their project office at Wright-Patterson to Socorro along with several noted scientists to interview Lonnie Zamora and determine what the object was.
