This Black Vault release compiles 1964 newspaper and wire service clippings plus a Project Blue Book summary on the Socorro, New Mexico sighting by policeman Lonnie Zamora on April 24, 1964, when an egg-shaped object left four depressions and burned brush. It covers J. Allen Hynek's site visit, APRO and NICAP comment, and related New Mexico reports at La Madera, Edgewood and Albuquerque. The Air Force summary reports that soil and brush analysis found no radiation or propellant, and the case remained open.

# 'Flying Saucer Reports Spread In New Mexico SANTA FE (UPI) - New Mexico's perennial addiction to flying saucers has taken hold of the state again with more "objects" reported to police over the weekend. The latest, which brought out the Air Force and the FBI, was spotted early Sunday morning at La Madera, about 50 miles north of Santa Fe. State Police Captain Martin Vigil said, "there was definitely something there." Orlando Gallegos of Santa Fe told State Police he got within 200 feet of a huge metal object that looked like an egg-shaped butane tank. He said the flame was silently flaming the bottom of the object. It was as long as telephone pole and about 14 feet in circumference. He told police Gallegos' report came on the heels of a similar report from a Socorro policeman, Lonnie Zamora, who said he spotted an object near Socorro Friday night. Zamora, in clearing up false reports Sunday, said the object rose about 20 feet off the ground and slowly flew away. Similar reports came from a Socorro teenager, an Albuquerque motorist, and two men driving in the La Madera area Saturday night. The Albuquerque motorist, George Mitropolis, said - he saw a "silver looking" object. It disappeared over a mountain in the Caballo Reservoir area. In both the Socorro and the La Madera reports the ground in the areas where the objects were reported to have landed was scorched and burned. Also found were "paw prints, like a mountain lion's," as well as "landing gear marks" four impressions in the dirt. Until the recent spotting, the last unidentified flying object was spotted in New Mexico near Gallup late last year by several motorists. A campus policeman at the University of New Mexico also spotted the Gallup object flying in the western sky at the same time.
