This Project Blue Book file, released through The Black Vault, collects US Air Force records from 1950 to 1959 on the movie film Nicholas Mariana shot at Great Falls, Montana on 15 August 1950. It includes the OSI interview report, letters about borrowing and copying the film, and a 1956 Douglas Aircraft analysis. Blue Book's own findings were not consistent: one letter lists the cause as unknown, while later memos conclude the objects were probably two F-94 jets.

Hearst Corporation Legal Department 959 Eighth Avenue New York City, New York ## Dear Mr. Bowden This will reply to your questions concerning the observation of unidentified aerial phenomena by Mr. N. Great Falls, Montana on 15 August 1950. Since I understand from Lt Ruppelt that the file in this case was located and offered to you for examination before you departed, I take it that you will not require any copies of material as suggested. (1) This case came to the attention of the Air Force by a letter from the Great Falls Leader, Great Falls, Montana dated September 13, 1950, signed by Mr. C. T. Sullivan. (2) Mr. was interviewed by an officer from a nearby Air Force organization. Information was submitted by Mr. voluntarily. (3) The observer stated the sighting took place between 1125 and 1130 hours, MST, 15 August 1950 and phenomena were in sight for a period of about eight seconds. Mr. stated that a time of approximately 20 seconds elapsed between his first sighting of the objects and completion of his photography of them. It should be noted that this last time mentioned was obtained from a narrative report of the investigating officer, and is not a direct quotation of statement by Mr. (4) No reply can be made to your question concerning relative size of objects as they appeared in film compared to film size, since Min was returned to Mr. and is not available for examination. (5) Conclusion as to probable cause of sighting in this case Is: Unknown
