This Project Blue Book file from the USAF, released via The Black Vault, covers the 16 January 1958 sighting at Trindade Island. Its record card says two Rio de Janeiro newspapers printed photos of an alleged flying saucer taken from a Brazilian naval ship, and that ONI analysis judged them a hoax. The file also holds galley proofs from a Menzel book arguing the Barauna photographs were faked, plus APRO Bulletin and NICAP material.

Reproduced on this page arc the four
excellent pietures of a UAO photographed
hy photographer Almira Barauna on 16
J anuary 1958. This is the fi r st time, to
our knowledge, that a research organi-
za tion ha s obtained first copies from the
ori ginal negati ves, along wi th indepen·

Photo 1, top left, shows the object ap-
proaching Trindade Island at low speed
from the direction of the sea.
Photo 2, middle page, left, shows the
object at the time it was behind Gala
Crest.
Photo 3, middle pa ge, ri g ht, shows the
object shortly after ir made a turn near
Dcsejaclo Peak.
The last photo, Photo 4, bottom right,
shows the object flying at hi gh speed
as it leaves the v.icinity of the island.
This series is without a doubt the most
detailed, informative group of UAO pic-
lures ever laken. We are indebted to
Dr. Fontes and Joao Marli ns for their
efforts on our behalf, as well as to the
editor of th e magazine 0 Cruzeiro, for
his cooperation in bringin g these pictures
to the field of UAD research .
