This U.S. Air Force Project Blue Book case file, hosted by The Black Vault, covers a fireball seen on 9 December 1965 over Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Canada, and concludes it was a meteor. It holds memos on calls about Acme, Pennsylvania, where a search from the Oakdale Radar Site found nothing, plus letters from witnesses and a photographer. It also includes a Sky and Telescope article on the Great Lakes fireball and letters identifying material found in Lapeer County as chaff.

Gentlemen I have just returned from a convention in Miami Beach on Air Canada flight Since I sighted this " thing " our your Country I suppose. You are the people it should repudiate to. At approx 4.45 p.m. and at about 10 run flying time south of the city of Pittsburgh when we mere at 18,000 ft . It was looking out the window to ward the earth when 2 saw " it " A sort of pencil shaped object flying horizontal for a split second then going into a 70' drive with an orange flame then appearing behind it. In a matter of just 30 or 4 seconds it was gone just like a rocket taking off but the was in reverse - going down.
