This 217-page Project Blue Book desk file on the 24 April 1964 Socorro, New Mexico sighting by policeman Lonnie Zamora comes from the Rob Mercer collection. It contains the Blue Book record card, which carries the case as unidentified pending more data, along with Foreign Technology Division messages and resumes and a narrative of the sighting. It also holds inquiries about lunar modules, helicopters and VTOL craft, soil and radiation findings, and a letter by J. Allen Hynek rejecting Donald Menzel's hoax hypothesis.
d. Mr Zamora stopped his ce.r \lhile he w.s still talking on the radio and started to get out. He finished his conversation Y1 th the sheriff's office and proceeded towards were the object was. He then beam a roar, a very loud roar but not like a jet, vhich was ot lov t're!!quency and then rose in f'requency and very very loud. At the same time that the roar 'WaS heard be sav a flame. '!he flame was under the object. Object started to go straight up, slowly. · Object rose slowly end name vas coming from the bottom. The color was light blue and sort of orange, but he sav no smoke. Hovever, there vas dust in the i.Dinediate area. As soon as Mr zamora sav the flame and heard the roar he turned and ran avay from the objed;. He bumped his leg on the back fender of his auto, lost his glasses, tell to the ground, got up and proceeded a-way f'rom the object for at least another 50 feet. He fell to the ground and covered himself like an ostrich, expec~ing the object to blov up. The roar lasted tor a tev seconds. e. ;:hen there was complete silence, he lifted his head and sav the object going s.vay from him. 'lb.e object appeared to go straight up to an altitude of 15 feet and proceed slovly towards the dynamite shack where it cleared the shack bg 'What appeared to be three f'eet. Object traveled six miles in three minutes. t. Mr Zamora vent back to his car and asked the radio operator at the station to look out the vindov and see if be could spot the object. The radio operator failed to spot the Object because he wo.e facing · North and coo.ld not see tb..e object from this angle. S• Mr Zamora claims that the object had no flame \lhatsoever as .it was flying over the ground and he could see no smoke. b. .After the object had left the area, Sgt Chaves, o-r the New Mexico State Patrol, arrived at the scene. Sgt Chaves claims that Mr zamora was perspiring and very \olhi te, verJ pale. Sgt Chaves and Mr Zanr:>ra sav a burning brush and proceeded to the spot where the object had first been seen. 1. Mr Zamora claims that the object had tvo legs slanted oo.twards 1 . towards the ground and he also claims that he distinct~ heard two or three loud thumps, like someone possibly shutting or opening a door. 2. It is my belief that Mr Zamora is telling the . truth and that bee did in tact see a man made object Vhich probably belongs to one of the aervices.
