This 217-page Project Blue Book desk file on the 24 April 1964 Socorro, New Mexico sighting by policeman Lonnie Zamora comes from the Rob Mercer collection. It contains the Blue Book record card, which carries the case as unidentified pending more data, along with Foreign Technology Division messages and resumes and a narrative of the sighting. It also holds inquiries about lunar modules, helicopters and VTOL craft, soil and radiation findings, and a letter by J. Allen Hynek rejecting Donald Menzel's hoax hypothesis.

·.. 10 and tried to call the Empire Film Studio, but .it vms closed. In view of the fact that the prevailing opinion in the town still is that what Zamora saw not the result of hallucinations or of a hoax, but ·a secret test vehicle, what has bec01i1e of rey suggestion to have this left as"an exercise for the students"'? It would be a rrarvelous exercise for neophyte intelligence officers . · There is also the opinion expressed in Socorro, and expressed to me a number of times in the past, by several people (and also by laPaz) that I am merely a part of a super- smoke screen and so is FTD and Wright Field, and that the whole Project Bluebook is a grand coverup for something the government does not want discussed. Best way to give a lie to this, of course, is to point out that if this were the case, t he U. S. government should also have been responsible for the sightings in France, Brazil, . Spain, and in England. Maybe the U. S. goverrunent has really gone global! On that happy thought I concl ude my report. Sincerely yours, i·f!:;tted P. S. I now have a slight~· . infect/finger from the t horns on the bush that . was originally charred. The bush drew blood when I attempted to get some sail samples. Undoubtedly, the finger will now wither a~~Y from radiation burns . Unfortunately, I do not have interplanetary Blue Cross coverage! J 1-)Rob Mercer
