This 217-page Project Blue Book desk file on the 24 April 1964 Socorro, New Mexico sighting by policeman Lonnie Zamora comes from the Rob Mercer collection. It contains the Blue Book record card, which carries the case as unidentified pending more data, along with Foreign Technology Division messages and resumes and a narrative of the sighting. It also holds inquiries about lunar modules, helicopters and VTOL craft, soil and radiation findings, and a letter by J. Allen Hynek rejecting Donald Menzel's hoax hypothesis.

Calif., 'firm has finished filming the Socorro part of a documentary bn unidentified fly- ing objects. Principal in the Socorro sec- tion of the film was city police- man Lonnie Zamora. He said he !>aW an UFO on April 24, 1964; after it had landed in a gully near here and also said he saw it take off. Zamora re-enacted· his experi- ence for Empire Film Studios at the scene last Saturday. . A studio bfficial said the film \ may be ready for showing in five weeks. '.r ..... ·APRIL 24, 1964, Socorro, New Mexico APRIL 24, 1964, Socorro, New Mexico - on April 24, 1964,-as-ocorro-;-New Mexico police, Mr. Lonnie Zamora, re- ported an object on the ground a mile south o! the town at approximately 5:30 p.m. Lonnie Zamora said the ob- ject was white, egg-shaped and sup- ported on girlerlike legs. He heard a roar and saw smoke and flames com- ing !rom underneath the object. The UFO rose to a point about 15-20 !eet above the ground and the flames and smoke ceased. The UFO remained stationary !or several seconds and then flew off in a southerly direction. The Air Force sent investigators !rom Wright-Patterson AFB to Socor- ro. The invtstigation disclosed the fol- lowing facts. No other witnesses to the object could be located. There were n:> unidentified helicopters or aircraft in the area. Observers at radar installa- tions observed no unusual or unidenti- •. fied blips. There was no unusual me- teorological activity. There was no 'evi- dence of markings of any in the area other than the shallow .depressiom at the landing site. ,Laboratory analys:S of .• the foreign· material or radiation above normal. Laboratory ·analysis of the burned brush showed · iio chemical which would indicate a type o! pro- pellent. Air Force conclusion: "Un- known".
