This 217-page Project Blue Book desk file on the 24 April 1964 Socorro, New Mexico sighting by policeman Lonnie Zamora comes from the Rob Mercer collection. It contains the Blue Book record card, which carries the case as unidentified pending more data, along with Foreign Technology Division messages and resumes and a narrative of the sighting. It also holds inquiries about lunar modules, helicopters and VTOL craft, soil and radiation findings, and a letter by J. Allen Hynek rejecting Donald Menzel's hoax hypothesis.

a policeman. Mr. Lonnie Zamora,
reported sighting an object on the
ground a mile south of the town
at approximately 5:45 p.m. Lonnie
Zamora said the object was white,
egg-shaped and supported on gir-
derlilce legs. He heard a roar and
•aw smoke and flames coming
from underneath the object. The
UFO rose to a point about 15-20
feet above the ground and the
flames and smoke ceased. He
stated that the object remained sta-
tionary for several seconds and
then flew off in a southerly di-
rection following the contour of
. the gully. I wrote Lonnie Zamora
on several occasions concerning
his sighting, and never received a
reply. I was also unable to reach
-him by telephone.
The Air Force sent investi-
gators from their project office
at Wright-Patterson to Socorro
along with several noted scientists
to interview Lonnie Zamora and
·determine what the object w@
