Project Blue Book case file: Levelland, November 2-3, 1957 (81 pages)

USAF / National Archives via The Black Vault · 82 pages · text by GLM-OCR

This 81-page Project Blue Book case file covers the Levelland, Texas sightings of the night of 2 to 3 November 1957. It holds the record card, Air Force teletype reports from the 1006th AISS and radar units, witness questionnaires, press clippings about the White Sands sightings, and analyst memos. Several witnesses said a bluish-white oval object stopped their car engines. The Air Force concluded the cause was ball lightning in stormy weather, with wet or faulty ignition systems explaining the engine failures.

Inclosure 1 to Part Five:

## STATEMENT

13 of my own observance.

On the night of 2 November 1957, at approximately 2310, my wife, 2 children of Anton, Texas, my wife and I noted occasional lightning and at the same time static on our radio. At approximately 2350 or 2355, I turned south (at Shallowater, Texas) to our southwest. At the same, my radio and car lights went out for approximately 1-3 seconds, and then came back on. My wife and I remarked that was certainly a strong bolt of lightning to put out our lights and radio. We didn't think anything its location and the time factor, certainly coincides with this flash of lightning that my wife and I observed.
