This Project Blue Book case file compilation, hosted by NICAP, covers Rex Heflin's photographs of a UFO taken near Santa Ana, California, on 3 August 1965. It includes an Air Force investigation report by Captain Charles F. Reichmuth, a USMC El Toro G-2 report, an FTD photo analysis dated 14 August 1965, correspondence with Ralph Rankow and Congressman James B. Utt, and newspaper clippings. The analysis concluded the object was about one to three feet in diameter, close to the camera, and could not be the size reported.

# DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE WASHINGTON # 6 Dec 65 ## Dear Mr Rankow The Air Force evaluation of the three photographs of an alleged unidentified flying object taken by Rex Heflin of Santa Ana, California, is based on enlargements made from copies of the original prints. The camera was probably focused on a set distance and not on infinity as the terrain background was blurred in all three photographs. The center white stripe on the road and the object appeared to have the same sharp image. Therefore, it is believed that the object was on the same plane as the center white stripe (or closer) to the camera and could not possibly be the size reported. Using the width of the road as a factor, the size of the object was estimated to be approximately one to three feet in diameter and 15 to 20 feet above the ground. Sincerely, Sincerely , JOHN P.
