This Project Blue Book case file, released through The Black Vault, collects records on the 24 July 1948 sighting by two Eastern Airlines pilots of a wingless object about 20 miles southwest of Montgomery, Alabama. It contains teletype replies from military bases reporting no aircraft movements, a 1948 Project Sign special investigation report with an interview of a Robins Air Force Base witness, and a December 1948 intelligence report. It also includes newspaper extracts, a Harvard College Observatory letter and Hynek's Project Grudge evaluation index.

# United States REPORT NO. 102-122-79 AIR INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION REPORT

Unidentified Flying Object

Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia Tech Intelligence Div. Intelligence Dept, Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio 20 December 1948 24 and 26 July 1948 A-2

Robert R. Sneider, Captain, USAF

Proj. "SIGN" ltr. Dept. of the AF, Hq USAF, dated 30 Dec 47 "Flying Discs"

Detailed interrogations have been completed of persons reporting undeter- mined flying objects in the vicinity of Montgomery, Alabama, 24 and 26 July 1948, between the hours of 2130 and 0245.

Analysis has been made of the compiled statements and the other available evidence of each individual interrogated. The analysis was undertaken as only one of 219 reported incidents with an objective of arriving towards a definite pattern or trend in order to determine whether the objects reported were of domestic or alien origin, or a natural phenomena.

COMMENTS: Analysis of data under Incident #1444 reveals that four separate cases are involved; one having occurred on 24 July 1946 and the others on the 26 July 1946. A preponderance of evidence is available to establish that in almost all cases an unidentified object was seen within the times stated and on the same dates over an extended area pursuing a general course South. Descriptions as to size, shape, color and movements are fairly consistent.
