This Project Blue Book case file, released through The Black Vault, collects records on the 24 July 1948 sighting by two Eastern Airlines pilots of a wingless object about 20 miles southwest of Montgomery, Alabama. It contains teletype replies from military bases reporting no aircraft movements, a 1948 Project Sign special investigation report with an interview of a Robins Air Force Base witness, and a December 1948 intelligence report. It also includes newspaper extracts, a Harvard College Observatory letter and Hynek's Project Grudge evaluation index.

TITLE: RIGHTING OF UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT; CHARACTER: SPECIAL INQUIRY CONVENTIONAL AIRCRAFT; FILE NO: 24-135; DATE: 2 November 1949

Evidence of exhaust	A cherry red flame extended 50 to 75 feet to rear of object.
Effect on clouds	None.
Lights	The forward two-thirds of cylindrical unidentified flying object appeared to have two well defined rows of cabin lights.
Support	No wings
Propulsion	Appeared to be result of jet power.
Control	Excellent - well coordinated gentle clinking turn into clouds prior to disappearance
Air ducts	None observed.
Speed	At least 500 miles per hour.
Sound	None audible.
Noer of disappearance	Disappeared into cloud bank to rear of observer, after slight climbing turn.
Venther	(At 5000) Visibility - Excellent, with 25 mile range. High - broken clouds - brilliant moonlight - Saint George of light breaze.
