This Project Blue Book case file, released through The Black Vault, collects records on the 24 July 1948 sighting by two Eastern Airlines pilots of a wingless object about 20 miles southwest of Montgomery, Alabama. It contains teletype replies from military bases reporting no aircraft movements, a 1948 Project Sign special investigation report with an interview of a Robins Air Force Base witness, and a December 1948 intelligence report. It also includes newspaper extracts, a Harvard College Observatory letter and Hynek's Project Grudge evaluation index.

With reference to your letter of August 5, 1948, your office symbol ICIANO-3, concerning the subject matter.

It is believed you were misinformed as to which office might be able to furnish you with the desired information. The States of Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida are all in the Second Region, with Headquarters at Atlanta, Georgia; the Address being as follows: Regional Administrator, Civil Aeronautics Administration 84 Marietta Street, N.W., Atlanta, Georgia, Attention: 2-280. In order to expedite receipt of the desired information by your office we are forwarding your letter of August 5th to the Second Region and requesting that they supply you with the desired information.
