Most entries cover counter-narcotics interdictions, logistics, and security events. Public Affairs notes record press queries about a "cruise-missile-type object" reported near an American Airlines flight over New Mexico, which were referred to American Airlines or the FBI. They also record questions about the release date of the UAP report to Congress, which were referred to ODNI.

Operations (J3) (b)(1) Colombia. (U/POLICY) On 22 Feb. a USN P-8 detected a Go-Fast Vessel (GFV) 135 NM SW of the PANCOL border. USCGC MUNRO was intercepted the GFV. The operation resulted in the seizure of 3,640 lbs of marijuana and 3x personnel detained. Next 72 hours. (b)(1) Florida (Space Launch Event) (GUL) On 1 Mar, SpaceX plans to launch a Falcon-9 carrying the Starlink-17 mission from Kennedy Space Center, FL. This will be the 20th batch of approximately 60x satellites for SpaceX's Starlink broadband network placed into orbit. (U) Public Affairs (PA) LTIOV: 251900FEB21 Ops in Info Environment (J3) LTIOV: 251530FEB21 FY22 Budget Review. Multiple queries asked for information regarding DEPSECDEF Hick's memo identifying key programs for review prior to formulating the FY22 budget request. Reporter asked how the Deputy Secretary identified the key areas to review and for a copy of the memo. PA provided that the directive is an internal planning document and not intended for public release. American Airlines (AA) incident. Multiple reporters asked about reports that a "cruise-missile-type object" passed near an AA flight over New Mexico. For reporters who asked whether the object was a U.S. military missile, PA stated that the military was not conducting any testing in that area, at that time. Reporters who asked in general about the incident, or whether DoD was investigating the "UFO" or Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP), were referred to AA or the FBI, per coordination with the FBI National Office, who first alerted PA to the incident. VED. (U/POLICY) Tri-border Insecurity continues in the Mali-Niger-Burkina Faso region, with two Malian soldiers being killed by an IED on 14 Feb. The multiple armed groups that appeared in central Mall in 2015 have thrived on the old antagonisms linked to land disputes and ethnic groups, and attack any remaining symbols of state representation to forment tension. Separately, Iraqi sources reported that a contracted U.S. military logistics convoy was targeted in Babylon on 25 Feb. In recent months, convoys carrying logistics equipment for U.S. troops stationed at Iraqi military bases have been targeted by roadside IEDs.
