This Office of the Secretary of Defense FOIA release (case 22-F-0249), dated May 16, 2023, collects public affairs material about the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG). It contains Deputy Secretary Kathleen Hicks' November 23, 2021 memo creating the AOIMSG and an executive council to succeed the Navy's UAP Task Force. It also holds press releases, briefing cards with talking points and answers, a spokesperson statement and news clips.

* AOIMSG Establishment. Ed Browne, Newsweek, sent separate queries seeking comment from DSD Hicks and USD(l&S) Moultrie on their 'hopes and aspirations' for the AO IMSG, their personal thoughts on ' UFOs,' and national security implications. Referred reporter to DSD's memo on the establishment of the AOIMSG, and provided pre-approved lines, including: "The preliminary assessment report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena that the Director of National Intelligence submitted to Congress in June 2021 highlighted the challenges associated with assessing airborne objects, including UAP, occurring on or near DoD training ranges and installations. The report also identified the need to make improvements in processes, policies, technologies, and training to improve our ability to understand UAP. The AOIMSG will focus on proactively detecting, identifying, and attributing airborne objects - including both known objects and UAP - in Special Use Airspace, rather than simply focusing on objects that were observed but not identified.
