NZDF declassified RNZAF UFO files

NZDF / RNZAF via Internet Archive · 2010-12 · 445 pages · text by OCR

This is a New Zealand Defence Force public release of RNZAF file AIR 39/3/3, "Flying Saucers," which covers 1952 to 1955 and was declassified in September 2010 under the Official Information Act. It collects sighting reports from the public and military personnel, press clippings, and a table of 1952 sightings. It also holds Carter Observatory opinions attributing some reports to meteors. A large part covers the inquiry into lights seen from National Airways Corporation Flight 108 on 31 October 1955, which the RNZAF could not fully explain as Venus.

## PROFESSOR PICCARD TOO

19 miles high in a Balloon with 99% of the Earth's atmosphere beneath him, equipped with a suitable telescope, this famous Scientist also intends to take advantage of the opportunity to probe the secrets of Mars. It is the continual movement, tremors, shakes etc. of the Earth's atmosphere that has always prevented ideal astronomical conditions.

Possibly Britain's New Giant Radio Telescope may be used. For certain, the powerful modern radio receivers and transmitters will again be standing by on this momentous occasion.

This time with radio and astronomical techniques improved tenfold, if an intelligent race exist on Mars, combined operations planned for late August 1956, have every chance of successful detection.

Absence of any full-time staff, plus insufficient time available to carry out the administrative duties involved in inviting financial membership, is the prime reason for our wish to remain a small compact group. The active members, eight in strength, residents of Auckland City, actively pursue the published aims of the organisation in all spare time available in the evening and weekends, outside the normal requirements of regular occupations.

We are much indebted to those of you who, having been fortunate in viewing a mysterious object in flight, have greatly assisted this investigation by the voluntary forwarding to C.S.I., an account of your experience.

## NOTE

Perhaps you have wondered how best you can help us. Below is a list of suggested means of doing so.

(a) Should you perchance hear of person or persons claiming to have witnessed the filight of suspect objects, would you forward their names and addresses, if obtainable, to C.S.I. We will attend to the rest.

(b) If you note published reports in your local newspapers, trim add date, title of newspaper and post to us as early as possible. Many local happenings are not reported in other newspapers.

(c) Extra copies are also ready material for sending over sens in exchange for information forwarded to C.S.I.
