This is a New Zealand Defence Force public release of RNZAF file AIR 39/3/3, "Flying Saucers," which covers 1952 to 1955 and was declassified in September 2010 under the Official Information Act. It collects sighting reports from the public and military personnel, press clippings, and a table of 1952 sightings. It also holds Carter Observatory opinions attributing some reports to meteors. A large part covers the inquiry into lights seen from National Airways Corporation Flight 108 on 31 October 1955, which the RNZAF could not fully explain as Venus.

# Flying Saucer' Back On The Newfront (N.Z.P.A.-Router-Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 10 (Rec. 10am).—R.A.F. intelligence officers are now investigating every case of "flying saucers" reported over Britain, says the "Daily Express." "The latest report comes from two flying officers who were together in a Vampire jet night fighter at 20,000 feet over Kent," says the paper. "They saw an object which at first appeared to be a star or bright stationary light. It was very much higher than they were, and after a few seconds it passed over their aircraft at tremendous speed. "It was maintaining a level flight, was circular in shape, and appeared to be emitting or reflecting a fierce light. "Two other incidents are worrying R.A.F. Intelligence. On October 9 two BEA pilots saw an object in the sky on the way from London to Paris. On their return to London they were told that the Northolts radar screen had been plotting an unidentified object that circled at 50,000 feet for two hours. "On September 7, the day Neville Duke broke the world's speed record at Tangmere, Sussex, a saucer was seen hovering over the airfield. It was a circular whitish object and after remaining poised for some time it took off at terrific speed towards the Channel. "The R.A.F. is now exchanging information with America. The United States Air Force is beginning to suggest hesitantly that flying saucers could be interplanetary."
