This is a New Zealand Defence Force public release of RNZAF file AIR 39/3/3, "Flying Saucers," which covers 1952 to 1955 and was declassified in September 2010 under the Official Information Act. It collects sighting reports from the public and military personnel, press clippings, and a table of 1952 sightings. It also holds Carter Observatory opinions attributing some reports to meteors. A large part covers the inquiry into lights seen from National Airways Corporation Flight 108 on 31 October 1955, which the RNZAF could not fully explain as Venus.

# A STATEMENT INDEED THE RIDDLE OF THE FLYING SAUCERS IS SOLVED. THEIR SOURCE IS KNOWN. Such was the outstanding and prominent announcement made in the 15th October and final issue of International Flying Saucer Bureau's publication "Space Review". What are the astonishing details; what positive information was revealed to the President of I.F.S.B.,Mr Bender by his visitors, three men of authority who presented their credentials. The reliability of the information was apparently beyond question, because Mr Bender and his colleagues, satisfied that the purpose of their investigation had been achieved, decided on the immediate disbandment of the whole organization. This has been carried out to the letter. A parallel statement reads." We are not permitted to reveal any of the facts via our publication. The higher authority advises us that it is not the time or place to print such information as has come to our knowledge." F.S.B. was one of the leading U.S. Civilian organizations; well organized and had established representatives in many countries. C.S.I. (NZ) has received Mr Bender's resignation as C.S.I.'s U.S. Representative. The President of I.F.S.B. further related in private correspondence, " I was profoundly shocked and unwell for a few days following the voting, I advise all those engaged in saucer work to please be very careful. All should know what I know within a few months. It has recently been established by C.S.I.(NZ) and confirmed through correspondence with th President of the Australian Flying Saucer Bureau, Mr E.R.Jarrold, that concurrently many other U.S. kindred organizations have suddenly become silent. No further mail is being received, no replies to letters written. Just what does all this add up to; have the authorities in the U.S. canned private investigation of the saucers, or have have they taken the civilian groups into their confidence and requested them, as good American Citizens to stand down and remain incognito, because the U.S. Government has solved the mystery and is preparing a Momemtous cement for the near future. We favour the latter. There has been other incidents of recent date that adds credence to the above expressed and to views previously published by C.S.I. may not be or earthly choosing. These are:---
