## SPEECH SOUGHT WITH "SAUCER MEN"

BOCHEM (Germany), July 24 (Reed. 6.30 p.m.)—Two German scientists said today that they believed flying saucers seen above the earth had come from other planets. Professor Hermann Oberth, 60, who is considered the "grand old man" of German space research, told a meeting in Bochem that research men were already discussing how to communicate with the creators and crews of the saucers.

Dr. Meyer Cords, chairman of the North Rhine and Westphallan branch of the German Society for Astronautics, said he had no doubt that the "saucer men" had reached a higher pitch of mental and technical development than earth man.

Both men said they considered it unlikely that saucers were, in fact, flying objects launched from the earth

STARGAZER of another sort is the Rev. Ronald Cartmel; of Aldridge, Suffolk. In his parish magazine he states his belief that people from Outer Space are watching us from Flying saucers, and suspects the fact is being censored. "Man is not the only being in the Universe capable of feeling," he

says. "Our knowledge of these visitors is being rationed by the authorities." Mr Cartmel thinks flying saucers may be linked with the Biblical prophecy about the end of the world, but whatever one may think about the rector's views he is surely well in the running for the Quote of the Week. Here it is: "If a space craft landed here, I would, as Rector of Aldridge, welcome the visitors to our world. They seem friendly enough."

'Saucer' Report

LONDON, Sept. 13. Police in Quarouple, northern France, are investigating a claim by a 34-year-old steelworker that a flying saucer carrying two little men landed at the bottom of his garden. They said they found burn marks on stones where the "saucer" was said to have landed, but little else. This is the story the steelworker, Marius Dewilde, told them:

"I was reading in my kitchen on Friday night, when my dog began to bark outside. I saw a black mass of something on the railway line at the bottom of my garden.

"I levelled my torch and saw two small beings about three feet tall but with very wide shoulders. Their heads were encased in enormous helmets and both were wearing overalls. I saw that their legs were proportionate to their bodies, but no arms.

"I tried to head them off but at that moment a brilliant green light shot out from the object on the railway line and dazzled me. I seemed to be paralysed. Then the object rose into the air with black smoke hissing out from somewhere. It looked like a circular cake, cover about nine feet high and 15 to 18 feet in diameter. In the distance it gave a sort of phosphorescent red, glow and then disappeared."
