This is a New Zealand Defence Force public release of RNZAF file AIR 39/3/3, "Flying Saucers," which covers 1952 to 1955 and was declassified in September 2010 under the Official Information Act. It collects sighting reports from the public and military personnel, press clippings, and a table of 1952 sightings. It also holds Carter Observatory opinions attributing some reports to meteors. A large part covers the inquiry into lights seen from National Airways Corporation Flight 108 on 31 October 1955, which the RNZAF could not fully explain as Venus.

Des Price, the following is an account of the actual events referred to in NZNBs N10/14 dated 18th November. On Saturday 12th October, he coin and I were standing on the bridge of the NP at that time parked alongside N03 jets at Napier. An object dropped into the bridge and on agonization it was found to be very light and seemingly made of a skin like material, and blown up hard. She so drawn, a circular if viewed from above. It was concluded to be part of a gutted fish that had swollen in the same sea. And had been flicked up by a sea gull and then drifted. It made no sound whatsoever, was of negligible weight, and when known overboard floated very lightly. Colour was white with faint traces of blood veins in it, and was begun up so hard so to be non-resident. The "Lying Bauer Investigator (Napier)" later approached us stating he had witnessed the event, and felt time the object "was not from our ionosphere". He was humoured and given above information.
