This is a New Zealand Defence Force public release of RNZAF file AIR 39/3/3, "Flying Saucers," which covers 1952 to 1955 and was declassified in September 2010 under the Official Information Act. It collects sighting reports from the public and military personnel, press clippings, and a table of 1952 sightings. It also holds Carter Observatory opinions attributing some reports to meteors. A large part covers the inquiry into lights seen from National Airways Corporation Flight 108 on 31 October 1955, which the RNZAF could not fully explain as Venus.

From the recent comments on the UFO question made by the Astronomer Royal, I can only assume he is now obviously following instructions and dams the saucers according to orders. This is being far kinder than accusing him of being a pig-headed fool making most libelous utterings, it is hard to control the urge to choose the later explanation for his imfamous performance. I recommend you subscribe to the new English magazine "Flying Saucer Review", I received a copy from (complimentary) one of my earlier correspondent who is now one of the Directors. of Flying Saucer Service Ltd. The Magazine is a little less than quarto-size, is printed on glossy paper, future issues 1 second published I2th May) will have 30 reading pages, and the sub of £1.I per year brings you 6 issues (every 2 months). My correspondent, the Hon Brimsley Le Poer Trench tells me the magazine is receiving great demand and Lord Mountbatten is one of the subscribers. (First Sea Lord). No news for a long time from the Australian Flying Saucer Bureau seems Mr Jarrold may of closed shop, due to overwhelming mail responsibilities etc. I should be ready for the cage myself when this is all over. May I convey my best tidings to you and may I ask of a little information on official opinions and workings in the UFO problem not of top secret or like classifications.
