Gemini VII Air-to-Ground Transcript Volume I: 5011500_VolumeI

· 341 pages · text by OCR

This is Volume I of III of the Gemini VII voice communications transcript, covering pages 1 to 337 and marked Confidential. It records air-to-ground, ground-to-air and on-board exchanges beginning at lift-off. Early passages cover staging, orbit insertion and stationkeeping with the booster, which the crew reports is venting heavily, and they photograph it. Later passages near 116 hours hold the crew's detailed descriptions of airglow, stars and a sunrise seen from orbit.

97:20:48	C	Roger. We're right over southern Mexico now, and everything looks beautiful from up here.
97:20:54	CC	Roger.
97:21:10	CC	Are you ready to copy?
97:21:13	P	Go right ahead, Elliot, shoot away.
97:21:17	CC	D-5: 99:50:00; Test Number 3. This is another test to try to troubleshoot the instrument. Attempt an MSC-12 ground-observation type run on the water. Spacecraft pointing away from the sun. See if instrument will calibrate. Record number of turns of gain wheel from calibration point to maximum. Do you copy?
97:21:47	P	Okay. Write this down.
97:22:23	C	Roger. And you have the results from our PDS-10 didn't you?
97:22:28	CC	That's right. We did. That's what led to this one. At Time 100:48:00: flight plan report of the RKV.
97:22:53	P	Roger.
97:22:59	C	Elliot, this is Frank.
97:23:01	CC	Go ahead.
97:23:02	C	I think we ought to try this test, but I'm pretty well convinced that we've got a defective instrument. I hate to keep wasting fuel on it.
97:23:10	CC	Okay, I'll --
97:23:15	CC	-- working on analyzing it here, and apparently do not understand it completely because they are still asking for these tests, but I'll pass that comment on.
97:23:24	C	Okay. Won't make any difference but we haven't had any luck with any of the tests so far, and we don't have a lot of fuel to waste.
