Gemini VII Air-to-Ground Transcript Volume I: 5011500_VolumeI

· 341 pages · text by GLM-OCR

This is Volume I of III of the Gemini VII voice communications transcript, covering pages 1 to 337 and marked Confidential. It records air-to-ground, ground-to-air and on-board exchanges beginning at lift-off. Early passages cover staging, orbit insertion and stationkeeping with the booster, which the crew reports is venting heavily, and they photograph it. Later passages near 116 hours hold the crew's detailed descriptions of airglow, stars and a sunrise seen from orbit.

73:30:46	C	I think you're getting us in sync so you can put us up for a good window launch on either eight or nine.
73:30:52	CC	That's correct.
73:30:55	C	Okay.
73:30:57	CC	Look's like we're going to be well within the fuel budget to get almost a perfect 161.
73:31:03	C	Very good.
73:31:08	CC	Jim, could you comment on the comparison of the suit configuration versus the non-suit; that is, as to comfort and ease of getting around the cockpit and so forth?
73:31:22	P	Well, Elliot, there is really no comparison as far as getting around in the cockpit. I can get back to my food box and waste basket with no strain.
73:31:31	C	...
73:31:32	P	I have a lot easier way of getting around, and I stowed the suit as we planned, ... Mike's suggestion. I'm dry and comfortable. During the night I get a bit cool when I sleep. The circulation is not as great with the suit off. In other words, it might be a tense spot someplace. But my hose is in position whereby I get nice circulation ... the body.
73:32:04	CC	Roger. Understand, Jim.
73:32:08	P	Elliot, one other thing required for perfect suit-off operation in the spacecraft is the proper placement of ventilators.
73:32:17	CC	Roger. I copy. How about this business of getting a little cooler at night? Do you feel it was too cool, or did you adjust the temperature up slightly to take care of that?
73:32:29	P	Right. I could adjust it; however, I didn't want to because of Frank and I think it's just because my
