This Federal Aviation Administration preliminary operations report, released by the Department of Transportation in 2023, is dated September 30, 2024. Los Angeles ARTCC relayed a report from Southwest 986, a B737 flying from San Diego to Oakland. The crew reported bright lights orbiting or stationary at FL600 off their right side while northbound at FL400, 16 miles southwest of LAX. The crew took no evasive action, and the report says the object correlates with the Starlink map.
