This is a Federal Aviation Administration preliminary operations report dated August 16, 2023, logged as AAL1397 UFO-UAP ACTIVITY. It records that Memphis ARTCC advised that American 1397, a B738 flying from Miami to Kansas City, saw two bright lights above the aircraft while at 20,000 feet, 60 miles north of Birmingham, Alabama. The crew reported no evasive action. Several other aircraft and the Birmingham tower saw the same lights, and reports came from as far north as Nashville and Huntsville.
