This is a Federal Aviation Administration Skywatch incident report dated July 21, 2023, logged by the Los Angeles center (ZLA) and filed as closed. While westbound at FL240, about 20 nautical miles east of Palm Springs, the crew reported a single orange light roughly 100 nautical miles off the left side, near the Mexico border.
