This is a 2023 Federal Aviation Administration record of an unidentified aerial phenomenon report, logged by Kansas City Center (ZKC) and now closed. On 3 February 2023, United flight UAL700, a Boeing 777 flying from Washington Dulles to San Francisco, reported a large balloon off its right side. The aircraft was northbound at FL400, 10 nautical miles west of STJ, and the crew put the balloon at approximately FL500 and above.
