This Federal Aviation Administration Skywatch Incident Report, released in 2023 by the Department of Transportation, records an unidentified aerial phenomenon on August 18, 2022. A westbound Gulfstream crew at FL470, 50 nautical miles west of LAX, reported a bright light in a holding pattern about 5,000 feet above. An American Airlines Boeing 787 crew, eastbound at FL390 from Kahului to Dallas, later reported the same phenomenon. The report is marked closed.

phenomenon was a bright light in a holding pattern approximately 5,000 feet above. 0852 AAL6, B789, OGG-DFW, reported
same aerial phenomenon off the left side while E bound at FL390, 40NM NW of SXC. TY/AWO notified.
