This Federal Aviation Administration Skywatch Incident Report, released in 2023 by the Department of Transportation, records an unidentified aerial phenomenon on August 18, 2022. A westbound Gulfstream crew at FL470, 50 nautical miles west of LAX, reported a bright light in a holding pattern about 5,000 feet above. An American Airlines Boeing 787 crew, eastbound at FL390 from Kahului to Dallas, later reported the same phenomenon. The report is marked closed.
