This 1970 USAF Office of Information file from the 21st Air Division at Hancock Field, Syracuse, collects community relations correspondence. It includes Enrico Grimaldi's report of faint star-like objects seen over Commack, Long Island on November 21, 1970, and Major Francis C. Moriarty's reply. The reply notes that Project Blue Book ended December 17, 1969, so the Air Force would not investigate. The file also holds a draft article on NORAD and SAGE, survey requests, thank-you letters and press tour messages.

REPLY TO ATTN OF: SAFOI SUBJECT: Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) (Director of Information) 1. Annually, the Secretary of Defense appoints approximately 20 women to three-year terms as members of the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS). The new members will be selected on the basis of their reputations in a business, a profession, or public service and their record of civic leader-ship. We have been advised that this year the Committee will be losing Medical, Public Information and Professional Education representatives. Therefore, qualified nominees from these fields would be most appropriate and their chances for appointment to the Committee would be increased. A fact sheet on DACOWITS is included (Atch 1). 2. The Air Force has been requested to submit nominations for the 1971 DACOWITS. Since geographic representation is also a selection criterion, only those commands with facilities in specified states will submit nominations to SAFOIC by 2 July 1970. These commands are: AAC, AU, ADC, AFLC, AFSC, ATC, CINCPACAF, HQ COMD USAF, MAC, TAC and SAC. Specific instructions for these commands concerning the submission of nominations are included as Attachment 2. 3. Recently, the Director of Women in the Air Force requested our assistance in orienting DACOWITS members to the Air Force and encouraging contact with individual DACOWITS members. A successful orientation program for the DACOWITS depends largely upon the support of information officers at all levels. Command information officers should establish and maintain close coordination with their command WAF Staff Directors in arranging activities for Committee members. 4.
