This is a Clinton Presidential Library release from the NSC email collection, filed under Area 51 and covering September 1997 to February 2000. It contains withdrawal sheets for redacted emails along with released messages. Staff are told not to use the term Area 51, and draft press guidance says the President renewed an exemption for the Air Force operating location near Groom Lake, Nevada, from disclosure requirements under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. One message jokes about jury duty summonses sending staff to Area 51.

This was not our preferred venue to kick off - in large part because the key witnesses (Rand Beers, State; Brian Sheridan, DOD) will be in Colombia - but lack of cooperation from Southcom, who insisted on sending Wilhelm - and Mica's staffs threats of subpoenas -made it difficult for other agencies to refuse. So ONDCP (McCaffrey), Southcom (Wilhelm), DEA (Ledwith), State (Romero), and DOD (Salazar) are expected to testify; * Colombia. I got the formal request from the House Democratic Caucus for you to come to a policy lunch on Colombia. I told them you would be happy to come, but that you are not available this week. Since the House is going on recess next week, we will be looking at a lunch meeting the week of February 28th; The Senate is out this week - the House is out next week - how inconsiderate! * POTUS meeting with bi-partisan group of House Members on PNTR; I- * Miles out on jury duty;
