* Monday
* Tuesday
* POTUS meeting with group of Democratic
House Members on PNTR;
on Taiwan/PNTR with the Thomas/Feinstein group. Target would be
the week of February 21;
* Colombia. I got the
formal request from the House Democratic Caucus for you to come to
a policy lunch on Colombia. I told them you would be happy to come,
but that you are not available this week. Since the House is going
on recess next week, we will be looking at a lunch meeting the week
of February 28th;
* The first hearing on our Colombia assistance
package will take place Tuesday before the House Government Reform
Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy, and Human Resources
(Mica). This was not our preferred venue to kick off - in large
part because the key witnesses (Rand Beers, State; Brian Sheridan,
DOD) will be in Colombia - but lack of cooperation from Southcom,
who insisted on sending Wilhelm -- and Mica's staffs threats of
subpoenas -made it difficult for other agencies to refuse. So ONDCP
* Warner. I have spoken with State and
Defense about having a meeting at the WH with Warner for a discussion
on Kosovo. We are still discussing who should be invited to join
Warner. In any case, it can't be scheduled until next week because
the Senate is out this week;
The Senate is out this
week - the House is out next week - how inconsiderate!
* Cohen NMD Meetings. DoD has proposed
a list (mostly Republicans but also a handful of Democrats) to come
to the Pentagon over the next month. The idea is to one meeting
per week — beginning when the Senate returns next week. Q: do
you want to join any of these meetings?
