This is a Clinton Presidential Library release from the NSC email collection, filed under Area 51 and covering September 1997 to February 2000. It contains withdrawal sheets for redacted emails along with released messages. Staff are told not to use the term Area 51, and draft press guidance says the President renewed an exemption for the Air Force operating location near Groom Lake, Nevada, from disclosure requirements under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. One message jokes about jury duty summonses sending staff to Area 51.

DoD has proposed a list (mostly Republicans but also a handful of Democrats) to come * SRB meeting with Dick Gephardt on Thursday at 11:45 for a general foreign policy discussion at our request. Topics should be MEPP, Colombia, Africa (i.e., his trip), and Russia. We also need to be prepared for the F-15 issue; * SRB makes follow-up call to Jim Jeffords on Tibetan human rights case (points with Mona); * Warner. I have spoken with State and Defense about having a meeting at the WH with Warner for a discussion on Kosovo. We are still discussing who should be invited to join Warner. In any case, it can't be scheduled until next week because the Senate is out this week; * Biden. I have not called Biden's staff to discuss a repeat performance - waiting for the right moment; * Thomas/Feinstein on Taiwan/PNTR. I sent you a proposed list of invitees for a bipartisan meeting on Taiwan/PNTR with the Thomas/Feinstein group. Target would be the week of February 21; * Miles and Mara have been called for jury duty on the same day (Monday). The summons says "Report to Area 51." You may never hear from either of us again! * POTUS meetings with House Members on China/PNTR scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The Monday meeting is for bi-partisan supporters ... the subsequent meetings will be with a mix of Democratic Members; we have been working with Chuck Brain and the Lane group on points and Q&As; * SRB call to Porter Goss on Colombia.
