This release contains White House Exchange Mail records dated January 1998 to October 1999. Most of it is a transcript of a January 29, 1998 press briefing by Press Secretary Mike McCurry covering Iraq, Iran, the budget and the Lewinsky inquiry, plus a 1998 presidential speech. An October 19, 1999 email among Transnational Threats staff forwards a Florida Today article on how scientists expect alien contact would spark a media frenzy rather than a cover-up, describing the 1989 SETI detection protocol.

I told some people — we were just at a larger recept over at the Fairmont, and I told the people there that the thing I really lil about Nancy Pelosi was she'd been in Washington a long time and she s had not managed to become cynical. She's still full of energy and passion and conviction. And we need more of that there. THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. You know, that was a better speech thai one I was going to give. (Laughter.) Thank you, Bill. Thank you, Sally. I am delighted to be here - it's a beautiful, beautiful place. It's been a great dinner, interesting people. Thank all of you for being here and supportir these fine candidates. I want to thank Mike and Lois for running for Congress. (Applause.) Th are prepared to make a not insignificant sacrifice in the quality of their life t there and serve you. And they will serve us well. I have a lot of friends here, but I want to say I'm especially glad to see E and Lee Perry. Bill Perry is one of the finest public servants that has ser the United States in my lifetime, one of the greatest Secretaries of Defei we ever had and I thank him for being here. (Applause.)
