This release contains White House Exchange Mail records dated January 1998 to October 1999. Most of it is a transcript of a January 29, 1998 press briefing by Press Secretary Mike McCurry covering Iraq, Iran, the budget and the Lewinsky inquiry, plus a 1998 presidential speech. An October 19, 1999 email among Transnational Threats staff forwards a Florida Today article on how scientists expect alien contact would spark a media frenzy rather than a cover-up, describing the 1989 SETI detection protocol.

A lot of the travels we've had the pleasure of making over the last year have been for campaign dinners, v the President was raising money for various candidates. Are we going to ha lot MR. MCCURRY: He's got an enormous amount of respect for those fol And that particular episode, why it happened, it didn't bother the President and I suspect that the crew involved feel worse about it than the President does, to be constrained by the extensive foreign travel schedule we have this year. I wouldn't be surprised if, for example, when we do something like unvei budget he then goes out and speaks to it on the road. But it's not going t much the same kind of thing. We get out and try to talk to Americans. MR. MCCURRY: I didn't say a thing. No, we don't need to go there bee we were in the flying saucer yesterday. (Laughter.)
