This Clinton Presidential Library release from NSC email records, filed under Roswell, covers April 19 to November 30, 1995. In an April 1995 email, NSC staffer William Leary says the NSC holds no records on the 1947 Roswell incident and that any records would most likely be at the Archives. Later emails circulate drafts of President Clinton's Belfast Christmas tree lighting remarks. The final transcript includes his answer to 13-year-old Ryan: as far as he knows, no alien spacecraft crashed at Roswell in 1947.

- Over the last three years, I have met with unionists and I have met with nationalist s from Northern Ireland. And I believe the greatest struggle you face is not between the parties at opposite ends 0 f the table, but the struggle between the peacemakers and the enemies of peace... between those who are in the shi p of peace, and those who ' are trying to sink it. Old habits ,die hard. And there will always be those who def ine the worth of their lives by what ,they are against instead of what they are for. Every citizen of Northern Ireland has a stake in the outcome of that struggle. So d oes every other human being who wants to build a better world. For as President Rabin reminded us only weeks be fore he died, "We all love the ' same children, weep the same tears, hate the same enmity, and pray for reconCiliatio 'n." We must not allow the ship of peace to founder on the rocks of extremism. Those of you who heed the call for peace must take a firm stand against terror. You must say to those who l would use violence for political objectives: You are th~ past. Your day is over. You have no place at the table of democracy and no role in the future of this land. By the same token, those who renounce violence and take risks for peace must be brou ght into the democratic process. Those who show the courage to break with the past must be given a stake in the future. As leaders for peace become invested in the process -- making concessions and bravin g the backlash -- each develops an interest in seeing the other side succeed. Whether black or white, Ara b or Israeli, Protestant or Catholic -- leaders for peace have more to gain from standing together than from sta nding apart. The sooner they can realize true peace for their people -- with all the rewards it brings -- the soo ner the forces of hatred will be discredited and destroyed. The United States is proud to support the peacemakers, here in Northern Ireland and elsewhere around the world. I pledge that we will do all we can to ease your load. You will not walk alone. We want to help Northern Irel,!-nd secure its place in the rising tide of peace around the world ... to find solutions ' , on the basis of consent.
