Dr David Clarke
Thank you for your letter of 16 September in response to my request for copies ofUFO-
related documents under the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information. I'm
grateful for the detailed estimation of time and costs you have provided.
I have examined your responses to the five individual requests drawing upon my
knowledge of the content of similar files already available at the PRO under the 30 year
rule. On that basis I assume that by now you will have located most of the material I have
requested and that it have will have taken less time to locate, review and sanitise these
documents than you have estimated in your letter.
I make the following observations:
1. ~e fde relatiwg to a UFO report made b~and
ft& Winchester, Hampshire, on 14 November 1976.
~RJ
.. ltc:,c'l'' ~assume that you have now received file AIR 2/18977 from the PRO. Ifthe UFO reports
y, \.j.tf' '\,....,.~V'tt contains are filed in chronologie~! order as is the case in earlier files in this series, this
t-J~, .<C r particular enclosure (if it exists) should have been located. I would be surprised if it ·
""(,v ~ ' consists of more than two or three pieces of paper.
2. Copies of the fde containing briefings and background -.otes on UFOs
prepared by the head of S4 (Air), with contributions from RAF Ops (GE) 2
and DI 55 for reference by Lord Strabolgi in his closing address during the
House of Lords debate on UFOs, 18 January 1979.
