This Ministry of Defence file, released through The National Archives and published by The Black Vault, holds the MOD's 2002 handling of Dr David Clarke's requests for UFO documents under the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information. It includes the MOD's 9 December 2002 reply, which covered reports from 1976, 1980, 1993 and 1996 and charged £260. Distribution of observations in time
Since 1951, a certain periodicity has been recorded in the large-scale appearance
of the phenomena, with clearly marked peaks in.1954, 1964, 1967 and 1975. How-
ew~r, scientific reseax·chers have not yet been able to find any partic~ular
£Jpatial occurrence in the universe that corresponds to this "pe::-iodicity". Only
one piece of data could be put forward by Mr Poher! ~ere seems to exist a
correlation between UFO observations and temporary abnormal fluctuations in the
earth's magnetic field.
At the overall level of the phenomenon, only the following points can therefore
be put .forward: ...
Observations canno~ be suspect since in more than 8~ of cases, they can be
. '·
correlated. with aero-space or physical "events"..
