This Ministry of Defence file, released through The National Archives and published by The Black Vault, holds the MOD's 2002 handling of Dr David Clarke's requests for UFO documents under the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information. It includes the MOD's 9 December 2002 reply, which covered reports from 1976, 1980, 1993 and 1996 and charged £260. * Two cases near an urban area
• Six cases near isolated dwellings.
• Twelve cases in an isolated region without any dwellings. . .
Of these twenty cases, only eight mention traces of imprints in the ground.
Characteristics of the phenomenon
The least that can be said is that the form of the phenomena observed, their
dimensions; colouxsetc, are of the most variable, as can be j~dged frcmthe
following tables.

Dimensions
Here again we find a very wide range of data. . Each case seems to be a special
case. In 38.64% there is no information. In 41.82% there is an apparent
diame~er which cannot be restituted because of inaccuracy over distance. In ~
of cases, the diameter is of the order of 1 meter. In 4.~ of cases, of the

order of 7 to 10 meters. In the other cases it varies between 1 meter and 70 meters.
Speed and traj:ecto:.z. ...
This speed variation observed inthe movements of_ the phenomena observed can be
explained by the fact that it corresponds to portions of the trajectory which are
