FBI file: UFO, UFO Part 16

Federal Bureau of Investigation · 169 pages · text by GLM-OCR

This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1949 Army intelligence reports of unidentified aerial objects seen around Camp Hood, Texas, forwarded by the San Antonio office, which told the Director it was reviewing and destroying such reports unless they held FBI interest. It also has 1957 FBI liaison memoranda on a radar-tracked object near Montauk Point and Benton, Pennsylvania, judged unlikely to be a Soviet operation. The file also includes a civilian Flying Saucer Researchers release arguing that saucers probably come from Mars.

I have received your letter dated March 13, 1961, and the interest which prompted your communicating with me is indeed appreciated.

This Bureau has conducted no investigation of the organization about which you inquired. In addition, the jurisdiction and responsibilities of the FBI, strictly an investigative agency of the Federal Government, do not extend to furnishing evaluations or comments concerning the character or integrity of any organization, publici or individual. I am sure you will understand the necessi for this policy and will not infer that we do or do not have in our files the information you desire.

In view of your interest in the internal security of the United States, I am enclosing some literature which you may wish to read.

Sincerely yours. J. Edgar Heover
