FOR FLYING SAUCER RESEARCH

## HISTORY

During 1950, the president of the group read a copy of the book, "FLYING SAUCERS ARE REAL" by Donald Keyhoe. It was the first serious study of the subject from all possible viewpoints, and created a very strong case against such superior aircraft being from any known country, leaving only the fact they must be from outer space.

During the next year, reports were collected from all possible sources, including magazines, newspapers, and by writing for back issue newspapers. During the spring of 1951, the idea of printing an amateur magazine with an available minograph machine took shape, with the idea of exchanging it with persons with local clippings of reports.

The first issue of the Review was printed in late August 1951, and 64 seplies are sent to others interested in the subject. Ads were placed in several magazines, including Fate; more persons were reached for clipping-magazine exchanges.

By 1953, this method of receiving reports became too great to handle because of heavy correspondence, and decided to order news clipping services, and charge members for the magazine, and have them send in clippings to supplement services

## PRESENT MEMBERSHIP

Present membership is under 600, in the US, and about 60 throughout Canada, England, and Australia, but is steadily rising at more than 30 per week. More ads are planned in the near future for science and sciencefiction magazines, and at present, we have an ad in the JAN 1954 FATE magazine, and a small editorial plug in TRUE MAGAZINE, MOV 1953, both on the stands. Also on sale now is the book 'FLYING SAUCERS HAVE LANDED' by Desmond Leslie, containing one chapter that lists an entire issue of the Review #5 as an example of report activity.

Several prominent members include IVAN SANDERSON, noted explorer, author, sociologist and radio-TV speaker; JOHN DUBARRY, Associate Editor of TRUE MAGAZINE and author of aviation and saucer articles. WILLIAM NASH, airline pilot who made the famous July 1952 sighting over Norfolk, Va. where 0 objects travelling at speeds over 12,000 mph were observed; and also 2 scientists associated with branches of atomic work.

As a rule, membership is very varied, including reporters, psychiatrists, restaurant owners, furniture dealers, and college students, including one in an Intelligence school in Pakistan. One former member was Professor Gerald Haard, author of many philosophic books including "IS ANOTHER WORLD WATCHING". In 1952 he left group to form the Civilian Saucer Investigations, which has suspended operation. Others are in the Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy, but are not connected with any military investigation of the subject.

## OTHER SAUCER GROUPS

There are more than 13 known civilian and government groups throughout the world studying the saucers. Of these, 16 small civilian groups are in the US, plus one government military group at Dayton, Ohio, under the AIR TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE COMMAND.

In the past, there has been at least 9 other US government branches who have incidentally involved in the subject, or have made small studies in it, not mention the dozens of scientists called in at times by these groups to give professional opinions on the data received.

The remaining 16 known groups are spread unevenly throughout the world, wherever exceptional numbers of reports have occurred in the past, to cause groups to form. Some governments now working on the subject are listed here.

1. AUSTRALIA-CIVIL AIR DEPARTMENT is working with Air Intelligence since May 1952, when a huge rocket-like object was seen over several hundr miles headed toward the sea, by nearly 100 witnesses.

2. BRAZIL - The FLYING SAUCER PROJECT is studying all reports since 5 photos were taken of a saucer over Rio de Janeiro on May 7, 1952

3. CANADA - The DEFENSE RESEARCH BOARD has analyzed reports since Jan. 1997.
