This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1949 Army intelligence reports of unidentified aerial objects seen around Camp Hood, Texas, forwarded by the San Antonio office, which told the Director it was reviewing and destroying such reports unless they held FBI interest. It also has 1957 FBI liaison memoranda on a radar-tracked object near Montauk Point and Benton, Pennsylvania, judged unlikely to be a Soviet operation. The file also includes a civilian Flying Saucer Researchers release arguing that saucers probably come from Mars.

Mr. Nichols

Date: July 8, 1930

By letter dated June 24, 1950, addressed to Assistant Director Tracy, Mr. Cosmon Club, Washington 5, D. C., requested a statement from the FBI as to whether any of its Agents have ever confirmed any report of an actual flying saucer being found or a general statement on the subject. Mr. desires the statement for an article he plans to write under the title, "Let's End This Flying Saucer Crase."

Bureau files reflect Mr. was investigated by the Bureau in May of this year in connection with his application for employment by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D. C. as Historian. It is noted that is a writer and at the time of the investigation, he was self-employed, residing at the Cosmos Club, Washington, D. C. has in the past received assistance from the Bureau in the preparation of articles and he was furnished data by Mr. Tracy in November, 1949, with reference to the footprinting of infants for use in an article on that subject to be published in "House and Garden" magazine. Data pertaining to is entirely favorable and our relations have been cordial.

RECOMMENDATION: That the suggested statement ATTACTED in reply to Mr. request be furnished to him.
