FBI file: UFO, UFO Part 16

Federal Bureau of Investigation · 169 pages · text by OCR

This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1949 Army intelligence reports of unidentified aerial objects seen around Camp Hood, Texas, forwarded by the San Antonio office, which told the Director it was reviewing and destroying such reports unless they held FBI interest. It also has 1957 FBI liaison memoranda on a radar-tracked object near Montauk Point and Benton, Pennsylvania, judged unlikely to be a Soviet operation. The file also includes a civilian Flying Saucer Researchers release arguing that saucers probably come from Mars.

Office Memorandum . UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT

TO a MR. TOLSBY

DATE: 2/21/52

FROM B. J. Tracy

SUBJECT: X FLYING SAUCKERS

Article in Look Magazine

current issue

Captain Dept. of the Army, telephoned and advised he is checking on the article in the current issue of Look Magazine by Dick Wilson, Editor of the Washington Bureau of Lock.

He stated that in the opening part of the article he refers to the FBI and subsequent information is quoted coming from some branch of Naval Research. He stated the information reportedly coming from the Naval Research section was not cleared through proper official channels. He stated he will subsequently discuss the material with Dick Wilson in view of the fact the article contains many glaring errors.

Captain would appreciate it if the Bureau would advise him if Mr. Wilson contacted the Bureau with reference to the part of the article referring to the FBI. He observed that the reference to the FBI is somewhat misleading.

It will be recalled Captain Long secured a quote from the Bureau in connection with the subject flying saucers. Captain Long was doing research in that field at the time in view of the concern of the Dept. of the Navy over the publication of wholly misleading and inaccurate articles on the subject of flying saucers.
